I of the best roasts we've ever had. No changes, no substitutions and tweaking required. It really bugs me when people totally alter a recipe. I don't even read long irksome reviews. If y'all don't like the recipe, then simply make upward a new one and submit it.

I have tried cooking pot roasts in a slow cooker before and there was either not plenty liquid or the vegetables were too difficult. This was perfect. I did utilise Chuck pot roast instead and didn't add the green peppers because of a piffling one. DH Loved this repast, next time I will add the peppers. The meat was tender just used a fork to serve! Keeping this to use again for certain.

Equally another reviewer suggested subbed beer for water. Besides, I adopt red peppers to dark-green. I roasted this dish in the oven as follows: Placed veggies in roasting pan; pour goop mixture over veggies. Rub meat with plenty of garlic, salt, pepper & paprika. Place meat straight on pinnacle of veggies. Meat should not remainder in liquid. (Another option, identify beefiness in another pan forth side of veggies/broth.) Roast in an open pan until meat thermo. reads 150*, usually 45 to sixty minutes. Remove meat just to platter; cover with foil to "rest" x min. until internal temp. reaches medium at 155*. Render veggies to oven with increased temp. to 425* with red pepper added at this time. Bake until veggies are tender & lightly browned, approx. 20 min. Exist careful non to dry out the veggies, esp. the potatoes. It may take a scrap of experimenting to get them to your desired doneness. Meat is all-time sliced sparse beyond the grain. It is tender & flavorful if non overcooked. Serve with sauce spooned over piece beef & veggies. Makes a peachy leftover beefiness sandwich the adjacent day. I accept been known to warm leftover beef in bar-b-que sauce for sandwiches the post-obit day. Cook once but consume twice equally a different meal is my favorite way to cook! Highly recommend this repast.

Spectacular! I like to add a can of cream of mushroom soup (no water added) to the crock right at the beginning. Afterward thicken with a flour or corn starch mixture and add a niggling gravy magic for flavor. Makes a delicious gravy. For those who are saying the meat was tough... use a quality pot roast cut and make sure you let the meat melt the entire fourth dimension stated. You cannot become incorrect with this recipe.
02/22/2009
Very delicious.
12/25/2007
Very succulent. I didn't have any beef boullion so i used beef gravy mix instead and it came out corking.
10/19/2005
This is a great recipe, information technology was my first time using a crock pot and information technology came out wonderful. I added 3/4 cup of red wine which I highly reccomend. I also skipped the bong peppers.
02/08/2006
This was a BIG hit! I think I must besides accept one of those fast cooking irksome cookers - I cooked it on high, and it was washed in under v hrs. I also put in some mushrooms instead of carrots, and used beer instead of h2o. This did not last long!
08/xv/2002
Overall, it turned out great. I loved the garlic cooked in the meat. I added a bouquet garni and some celery for actress flavour. I too thickened the gravy a fleck more. I'll definitely utilize the recipe again.
04/09/2004
I made this pot roast for my in-laws (people ane always imagines to be their greatest critics) and they loved it - even asked for the recipe! My husband loves information technology too, and it has become a once a calendar week menu item at our firm.
01/17/2007
This is a family favorite. Not for the non-garlic lover. The good affair is anybody enjoys this so much, everyone's breath will odour like garlic every bit much as yours. Great recipe.
04/19/2002
Smelled bully, was very boring. 2 of four people didn't like it, the other two thought it was simply and then-so.
12/27/2008
I have never cooked a Pot Roast, only since it was my husband'south birthday I took the plunge! This recipe was easy and turned out wonderfully! I also used beer instead of water and I cooked it in the oven uncovered for two hours (till 155 degrees) on 350.
xi/16/2008
My family literally inhaled this. GREAT RECIPE! Didn't alter a thing and don't plan to!
02/twenty/2011
I made this recipe with a ii-1/2 lb. chuck roast. After stuffing information technology with the garlic cloves, I browned it on 1 side under the broiler, added the remaining ingredients and baked it in the oven at 350 degrees for 2-1/2 hours covered. The meat is so tender and the gravy is so flavorful. We admittedly beloved this pot roast.
xi/29/2008
What can I say - this is wonderful. I made this today for the family and it was a big hit. Lots of left overs for sandwiches tomorrow as well! I did not have Bay leafage and I added basil and oregano to the sauce the terminal half hour. In that location was lots of juice, and so I removed over half of it 2 hours before it was washed and used that to brand a brown gravy. I just threw in 2 packs of Schilling dark-brown gravy mix. We poured that over the meat. Those are the only changes that I made. Love this roast!
02/25/2009
Best slow cooker pot roast I've ever had. Not tough and nifty flavor. I used beer instead of water as another reviewer suggested.
xi/25/2008
The meat came out too tough, fifty-fifty after half-dozen hours in the ho-hum cooker. Information technology tasted like garlic water. Very displeased.
03/05/2003
Although this came out pretty good for pot roast, it was to much work in my stance. I followed other reviewers' suggestions and browned the meat starting time, which I do recall helped. I also added more spices: thyme, onion pulverization, etc, and beef broth instead of h2o. I cooked on low 8 hours & everything was done perfectly. I guess if you accept lots of time in the forenoon to set up this, then you'll similar this recipe.
10/25/2009
Sad to say, despite following every step to the letter of the alphabet, I constitute this to be a bit on the bland side. Peradventure it was just me, but I expected and usually enjoy a much stronger flavor in pot roast. I'm also surprised it didn't include celery. I will add that adjacent fourth dimension if I make this once more.
10/06/2008
I take made this virtually 3 times now for my family. Information technology is gone in an instant! I do not add as much onion, but I still put in quite a bit. I use baby cherry-red potatoes and bagged baby corn. This is a must in the fall and winter!
xi/07/2007
This was the best pot roast ive ever had. I used a chuck roast instead of height sirloin, Sirloin was too expensive for our budget. But Information technology turned out very flavor full. Not dry at all. Side by side fourth dimension i volition effort with beer instead of water similar some others suggested. My husband was in aww after we were washed eating it too!
05/11/2011
I honey crock pot recipes considering they are and then easy. This was no exception. Toss everything in and in viii hours we had a peachy meal. My only business organization was with the burgoo cubes, was not sure if they should be tossed in whole or disolved in the water. To be on the safe side I heated the water and disolved the cubes before adding them to the pot. I was too worried this might make the meal too salty just it was not. I am not much of a cook and then I followed the recipe; except did non have green peppers and so I left that out and I simply had minced garlic so used that instead of the cloves. Cooked it on low for 8 hours and the meat was and then tender it savage apart while I was trying to become it out of the pot. This recipe is a keeper! Next time I might endeavor others suggestions to add together foam of mushroom soup or make gravy out of the broth/sauce.
12/02/2011
It was alright. Wasn't packed full of flavour or anything.
07/19/2013
We enjoyed the flavor very much...and it was quick and easy to assemble. I didn't have any green pepper, so we just skipped that part. The left over broth went into the freezer for a beef soup.
11/05/2010
This recipe is great! I used a chuck roast because information technology was cheaper, and a full loving cup of beer (Blueish Moon) in identify of the beef broth and left out the green peppers. Delicious! My hubby asked for it once more this week already, and we haven't even finished the left overs yet!
12/04/2010
I FIXED THIS FOR MY MOTHER WHO IS VERY Difficult TO PLEASE AND SHE JUSTED RAVED HOW Skilful It WAS, SHE EVEN CAME BACK FOR SECONDS. IN FACT THE WHOLE Family LOVED THIS ONE. Cheers Then MUCH Will BE MAKING IT AGAIN SOON....
02/ten/2014
WOW!!! The first fourth dimension I made this I made it every bit the recipe states and information technology was slap-up. The next time I made it I didn't have potatoes to put in right away and then I put everything else in. I permit it cook just equally stated to a higher place but made mashed potatoes and let me tell you lot that roast was to dice for. Information technology's very juicy!!!
04/27/2011
This was ok. I prefer a bolder flavour and then to me it was rather bland.
02/22/2009
Inserting the garlic into the roast is a mistake. Either to much garlic flavor or non plenty. Just throw in the garlic and cook with the residual.
03/29/2011
We loved this (minus the green peppers)! Next fourth dimension I'll add even more garlic!!!
12/28/2006
This is a very adept versatile recipe! I really enjoyed it. It's very flavorful and tender. I highly recommend this to anyone.
02/06/2009
This was okay. I thought information technology would be more flavorful. My married man really liked it but next fourth dimension I will upwards the spices.
04/25/2008
This was wonderful! I made a couple of changes, based on preference. I used a few more veggies... fresh mushrooms & parsnips. No dark-green peppers. I minced nearly half of the garlic, and tossed the raw veggies in the minced garlic, and a steakhouse seasoning spice. One can of double rich campbells beef broth (no water). The residue of the garlic I slivered and tucked in the meat, and seasoned the meat as directed. Veggies on the bottom, meat on the height. A splash of red wine over the pinnacle (about ane/2 loving cup). When the liquid started to submerge the roast, I drained some of the juice using a ladle. The roast was so tender, we could cut it with a fork. And both the veggies & the meat had a wonderful flavor! Thanks so much for the recipe.
08/28/2007
This is delicious! I did flavor the meat and vegetables with Johnny'south Seasoning Salt (No MSG) in addition to the salt, pepper and paprika. Also, I used consomme instead of beef goop and the flavor was ever amend! My husband loves when I make this for dinner!
01/18/2011
I make this all the time, fifty-fifty my neighbor comes over when I make information technology, he can odour it through the walls. :) Astonishing recipe. I wouldn't modify a thing.
07/thirty/2002
The secret to this yummy recipe is the garlic! I was very impressed at how good this was, plus it was so easy to set! My husband loved information technology as well! I don't know if my crock pot gets hotter than most, just everything got washed way before dinner time. I removed the veggies, then put everything back together right before dinner was served. I will make this on a regular footing!
05/04/2010
This was wonderful...I let the roast cook in my crockpot for nigh half dozen hours on loftier and then added the veggies and cooked on low for another 60 minutes or so. I did thicken the sauce a trivial so information technology was more gravy-like. The garlic really makes a deviation! Thanks for sharing!
02/22/2009
I was looking for something to do with left-over, defrosted, floured cubes of beef, and this was my answer! I re-floured the beef, browned it in butter and olive oil, and so proceeded with the recipe - adding a few fewer potatoes and a loving cup of fine carmine wine in addition to about 2/three cup water. I didn't bother with spices, since I used many (including mustard seed) in the flour blanket the beef. I but used two bullion cubes (one beef, one veggie) and didn't bother calculation the pepper at the end. We just loved the moist texture of the meat, and the flavor overall was superb. At present that I know roughly how much liquid to include, and how long to cook the meat, I'll be able to make all sorts of variations on this recipe. Cheers so much!
02/03/2001
This will be my only slow cooker pot roast from now on. Information technology was fabulous!
11/25/2006
This was good, the meat was so tender that we were able to utilize leftovers for great sandwiches!
11/03/2009
Very good! I added a package of onion soup mix instead of the buillon cubes.
10/13/2010
I used all goop instead of water and it was crawly. Information technology was my first pot roast and I won't be looking for another recipe. I forgot to put the green pepper in and it really didn't need it.
02/02/2006
Wow! What a flavorful roast! I didn't change a thing except I used minced garlic instead. Cheers for the wonderful new addition to our family favorites.
08/30/2009
Wow! This was merely fantastic. I did add together some celery and used fresh thyme and rosemary instead of the paprika because I had information technology on mitt. I subbed 1 cup water with the three bullion cubes and then added three/iv c red wine. I did thicken the broth a bit with some cornstarch. Cooked information technology on low for about 10 hours because I had to start it early. Now I've shredded what was left and poured the remaining au jus over the shreds so we've got sandwiches one night!
02/xv/2011
Crawly Repast - Family of five consume every bite with a huge smile ! loved information technology !
04/16/2002
This had very good flavor. The meat was a little dry out for my taste. I ended up making a beefy onion gravy and pouring that over the meat. Information technology turned out to be pretty good.
01/13/2002
I was and so impressed with this recipe. My hubby absolutely cannot stand roasts just he loved this then much he is going to let me go far again. That is a first. Thank you!!!!
04/22/2012
Great taste...decided to make this in the oven instead as I only had a 2 pound sirloin tip roast. Omited the green peppers(had none). Cooked in the oven covered at 325F for 3 hours.Uncovered for the last 30 min and basted it occaisionally. Perfect.
10/21/2008
This was a wonderful dinner. I did as some other reviewer suggested and added chocolate-brown gravy mix (low sodium in my case) instead of the beefiness burgoo and the sauce was wonderful. I also put the spices and the garlic in the meat 24 hours in advance and let it "marinate." My husband commented that the peppers that I added at the end as the recipe calls for were really dandy. Overall I am sure I will make this once more.
03/15/2009
I've tried many of the other recipes on this site for potroast, merely this is The Perfect Recipe for Perfect Pot Roast. Nix more than needs to be said!!!
03/12/2015
I tried this recipe once earlier, and brought it over to friends who had just had a baby. Husband and I had it for dinner that night too- we loved it! And our friends said it was by far the best roast they take had. I didn't save it then, but bought a top sirloin on the weekend, and luckily I found it once again, and it is cooking in the crockpot equally we speak. I didn't change a thing. We love garlic, then nosotros add a couple more cloves. I serve it with roasted mini red potatoes and green beans west/almonds. Just perfect.
01/xiii/2006
This recipe was piece of cake to make and did brand the house smell dandy. My husband liked the recipe very much. I found that the meat was very tender, but thought that it could be more than flavorful. Next time I make, I will definitely add some crimson wine as 1 of the other reviewers suggest.
04/07/2009
A lot of ingredients just is is worth it. Ane of the meliorate pot roasts I accept had.
01/04/2008
This worked very well for me. I used half beef broth, half scarlet vino for the liquid and did NOT use bullion cubes, just added a bit more salt, sprinkled over the veggies, in addition to the common salt rubbed into the meat. Also, used red bell pepper, not green and tossed the garlic cloves whole into the crock pot with the veggies rather than insert them in the meat. The all-time modify I made was to use real Castilian smoked paprika (pimenton) rather than hungarian or other paprika. Delicious!
02/17/2005
I simply gave this recipe 4 stars considering I had to add some of my own spices to make information technology really expert. It did turn out great just I added more garlic, some oregano, and some basil towards the concluding hour because I idea it was rather bland. I besides had to add some more beefiness base of operations in club to make gravy (I fabricated mashed potatoes instead of the yukon gilded) In the end, everyone had seconds and believe me, I have a very tough crowd.
02/nineteen/2002
Mmmm. Delicious. I was skeptical about adding the green pepper, but my husband and I thought they made the meal! The only change I'll make side by side time is cutting back on the salt and/or use low sodium beef bouillon.
02/24/2009
We tried this yesterday and it turned out wonderful. It was liked past all of us in the household. Thank y'all, Barry Ziegler
08/13/2010
surprisingly skilful!
05/thirty/2002
Wonderful! I cooked information technology on high for about 7 hours. THe whole thing was fabulous.
11/08/2011
Delicious! My usually picky married man had 3 servings! The only change I made was using beer instead of water (white beer). Give thanks you!!
12/25/2004
I believe that I may have over-cooked this as mine came out a fleck dry. My crockpot does seem to run a piddling hotter than others. Great flavour overall, though. The vegetables turned out great. If you're looking for a expert stand-by-from-scratch (no soup mixes, etc) Pot Roast recipe for the ho-hum cooker, this is a fine one to start with and build upon! Cheers!
07/xi/2011
Yummy and tender
08/01/2009
This was first-class! The best pot roast I have ever had. The garlic really gives it a skilful flavor.
04/20/2008
This recipe came out perfect, I did add mushrooms. I would adopt more seasoning for extra flavour next time.
03/21/2006
A pretty skillful roast recipe and information technology IS very unproblematic to make. When I "infused" the roast, I did add together some rosemary with the garlic and omitted the grn peppers. The results wasn't amazing but very satisfying.
05/18/2005
Excellent! Great, refreshing twist to the age-quondam pot roast. The vegetables turned out very moist and my kids devoured them. I cooked mine in a slow cooker overnight (x hours) with an actress 1/2 cup of water and it just falls apart (terrific!). No need to add together anything to make gravy, it is not bad on its own.
10/22/2013
Just made information technology for the first time and when I went to add together the peppers in the terminal half hour, I tasted the gravy and was a little disappointed with the banal flavor and so I scooped out a few cups of the liquid, added a tablespoon of wercheshire sauce and poured it back over the pot roast and vegetables. It too begged me for a scattering of mushrooms so I complied. It was fantastic! Thank you dontcookmuch.
03/08/2009
I didn't think it was over the height or anything, but information technology was definitely practiced. All the spices and broth fabricated the potatoes the best I've ever had, that is for sure! The roast was just like any other good roast I've had. I will brand it once again considering it was super easy.
01/27/2004
I would say that this recipe is average. I concord with some other memeber with the sentiment of... it'southward just missing something...
09/25/2008
the meat was autumn autonomously tender! it was really practiced! needed a bit more seasoning for me. I don't recall I added enough garlic but that's my ain mistake. i didn't use direct water, i just used beef broth, a little cooking wine and 3/4 bottle of shiner(information technology was all we had lol) i likewise added onion powder and celery salt for more flavors. yummy!
12/18/2010
Very good!
02/27/2007
This recipe turned out quite tasty! My pot roasts are usually missing flavor and turn out a picayune bland just this one turned out wonderful. I still think it needed extra salt but overall, very skilful and worth it!
09/07/2004
This is the BEST slow cooker roast I have e'er made! I have made information technology a couple times and everytime its perfect. I wouldn't modify a matter about this recipe. Its wonderful! Thank you for sharing!
12/08/2005
This was very good. The crockpot made the meat so tender--no pocketknife needed...and how dainty to come dwelling house and the meal is already cooked! Next time, I may use crushed garlic instead. I didn't gustatory modality much of the garlic flavoring using the slivers.
05/17/2005
FANTASTIC!!! We couldn't cease eating this. I omitted the peppers because of preference but everything else went into the recipe. I will definitely be making this again.
07/12/2007
Without a doubt, this is the best slow cooker pot roast I have e'er made.
12/31/2004
I used this recipe as a base for general pot roast. I added an extra bay leaf and thyme to add extra flavor, cut back on the amount of garlic slices pushed into the roast and threw a couple cloves into the water to stew with the veggies. I likewise used my injectaflavor to inject a mixture of beefiness broth, thyme and garlic minced together. Husband couldn't say enough things almost the roast, it smelled delicious all day and the gravy it fabricated was excellent. I kept sneaking sips of the gravy in the final 2 hours of cooking.
08/26/2009
Very skillful, very easy.
04/11/2010
Great recipe. Very flavorful. Similar a few of the reviewers suggested, thickened the gravy with some corn starch and added a little kitchenbouquet for color and flavor. Delish!
09/xvi/2009
This was a very easy and satisfying meal. I substituted green beans for the potatoes, since I am trying to lower my carb intake.
01/07/2001
Information technology was fine but non great. I must have done something wrong equally there was not as much flavor equally I anticipated by looking at the ingredients. I may try again every bit so many reviews are iv's and 5'due south.
06/fifteen/2006
This recipe was wonderful! Really great. I did not use a Sirloin roast since I melt for only two, I only used a rump roast, but it worked great. Will definitely make this again.
06/04/2010
Merely made this today, it was great, only matter I did was add together fresh mushrooms when I added the green pepper.
03/08/2009
pretty expert stuff.. a chip to much onion & potato (overstuffs the crock).. needs a bit of extra liquid. Would really do well w/ a bit of bbq flavour in the cooker or dry rubbed on the meat as it'southward a touch bland.
08/26/2001
YUMMY! I am a Big critic of what I cook and I must say this is the best pot roast I've ever cooked!! This is total of flavor and very moist! Cheers, I will be passing this one on!
08/06/2009
This recipe was unproblematic to follow and tasted delicious!
10/31/2011
My kids liked it, I will be making this over again.
12/03/2014
This was very practiced just very salty. And I just realized I forgot the bay leaf! That'south so different me! I'll make again but will find a fashion to reduce the salt.
12/xv/2008
WOW -i am so disappointed in this recipe! I followed information technology equally is thinking after that I'd try some of the suggestions in the comments - simply my meat was dry and some pockets tasted bland, some tasted decent and others had too much garlic. This was a piece of beef that I cut and used half in another recipe and it was quite tender, and so I don't think information technology was my cut of meat. If I try it again, I would rub with some flour and dark-brown it first, add some strained tomatoes, balsamic vinegar or something to help pause down the meat. It really doesn't even go another try from me though.
03/06/2009
ok recipe but not the comfort roast that nosotros all like best with the foam of mushroom soup gravy, it is the best.
04/02/2009
First-class recipe. I didn't utilise quite as much garlic as chosen for simply it very tender. My family loved it.
08/28/2011
Excellent! nosotros omitted the green pepper and added some chili pulverization and it turned out amazing! the gravy that came out was terrific and the potatoes and roast were perfect!
03/24/2002
I made this stew overnite and some friends comeover and they all loved it. I have had improve roast.. to me information technology was missing something?
01/15/2006
Very tasty and so piece of cake to practice...I omitted the dark-green peppers and instead of slivering the garlic, I minced it and rubbed it right onto the roast.
02/09/2015
I am non much of a roast person, just for being roast it was decent.
01/10/2014
Amazing! Out of all my pot roasts, this is my number 1! I loved it!
12/09/2016
Recipe looked great merely mine cooked faster than expected so it was surprisingly not juicy for a ho-hum cooker roast. It also had no flavor even though I seasoned it over night and pan seared it. Probably volition try over again but unsure what to do differently.
07/29/2010
I substituted Cajan seasoning for paprika and it was loved past my son and wife.
